We presented our paper "On the Latency of USB-Connected Input Devices" at CHI 2019 in Glasgow.

The paper describes why and how we measured the latency of input devices. Details can be found on the project page.

Key findings are:

  • the latency of most input devices shows a characteristic contribution
  • we developed a theoretical model and a simulation that allow to generate similar latency distributions
  • by polling an input device for new data every millisecond instead of at its default polling rate, latency can be significantly reduced for some devices.
